Choose a visible rib as part of the design

Rib knit fabric gives the panel a repeated surface line to work with. Place the cutting in the intended direction and review it beside the pattern. A body-fabric brief should describe the whole panel, including its seams and edge finish; a request for cuffs or ribbing trim is a different starting point.

Compare two material families

Article 6609 is the nylon-spandex reference: 75% nylon, 25% spandex and a specified width of 150 cm. The ribbed polyester spandex fabric route includes article 5502, specified as 89% polyester and 11% spandex at 185 cm width. Keep those article identities with the cuttings when reviewing the two materials.

Review the rib in a sewn panel

With a ribbed stretch fabric, consider how the lines meet the garment seams and any adjoining smooth sections. Mark the face and direction used in the sample. For contrast, compare the smooth nylon-spandex articles under the same garment brief. The surface can then be a deliberate design choice rather than an isolated swatch preference.

Describe the rib you want to keep

For a ribbed spandex fabric inquiry, include a reference cutting or a clear image showing the rib at a useful scale. State the garment type, material preference, required sample and estimated fabric quantity. Add the intended color direction and any width or evaluation requirements already established for the pattern you are developing.
